The SEWAC-B Managing Committee

The past and present members of SEWAC-B have worked with dedication to serve the ideals of the organization, running the school and various programs. Every two years, a Managing committee is elected by the members.

Shalini-Joshi

Shalini Joshi

President

Shalini has been a part of SEWAC-B since 2011.

She is a development professional with nearly thirty years of experience in the NGO sector in India, having worked mostly for education and health of children. In the past, she has executed programmes for people with special needs, science and technology in development and women’s welfare. She also has extensive experience in adoption scrutiny.

Shalini’s educational background is in scientific research with a PhD in Biochemistry. She has also researched, edited and written on a variety of issues for the Government of India, national and international NGOs, UN organisations, academic institutions and business entities.

KANTHI AATRE

Kanthi joined SEWAC-B in 2013

 

Kanthi is a Bangalorean. She moved to Cochin post marriage for 11 years where she worked as teacher in a school for spastic children. Moving again to Dehli for many years, she worked as a teacher in a Montessori school for 11 years.

 

Coming back to Bangalore got her in touch with SEWAC-B, through a friend. It was just the place she wanted to get involved in. Kanthi plays a very active role in the school and specially in the Creche.

Usha Anand

USHA M ANAND

Usha Anand has been a part of SEWAC-B since 2012.

She worked in her family business that manufactures mechanical and electrical counting meters for about 40 years. She has a Masters in Industrial Engineering.

A mother of two children, she loves being part of SEWAC and plays an important role in overseeing the school activities.

Usha was trained to be a dietician but ended up working for an Airline for more than 15 years. She had decided to enjoy retirement with her husband and mostly enjoys time with housekeeping, travelling, and music.

However, when she learnt about SEWAC-B, she decided to join. She has been a part of SEWAC-B since 2021, which she says is a completely new chapter in her life and being the Treasurer for SEWAC-B is very interesting.

AVA MARTIN

Director

Ava joined SEWAC-B in 2013.

She has an M.A. in Economics and worked in Vijaya Bank as an officer from 1978 – 1992. Thereafter, she lived in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi till 2015. After moving back to Bangalore, she joined SEWAC-B. Ava has served in the committee and spent time in the school for running its programs.

She has a wide range of hobbies such as travelling, cooking, reading, social work and playing Mahjong, Canasta n Ribicom.

Usha had been part of this organization for more than 30 years. She joined when it was the Altrusa Club of Bangalore formed in tie-up with Altrusa International of USA.

She is a retired freelance landscape designer, who now works full-time in her family business. She has rendered services at various positions in SEWAC-B for more than 30 years.

Her rich experience guides the organization in taking many decisions.

Chitra Nair

Corresponding secretary

Chitra Nair is a post graduate in Economics from Delhi University.

 

She joined SEWAC in early 2024 and has recently taken on her role as Corresponding Secretary. Chitra was an Officer in the State Bank of Mysore, Delhi for about 30 years. She has recently relocated from Delhi to Bangalore to be close to family.

Her interests are reading and traveling and she says it feels great to be part of this SEWAC family.

Raksha Zaveri is one of the founding members of SEWAC-B. 

She has been president of SEWAC-B during 1972-76 and again from 2021 end to June 24. During her first stint as president, the construction of the school building was started. She was involved in fund-raising with others and oversaw the construction of the ground floor.
She has always believed in making women independent and building their confidence. Among many other schemes, it is notable that she initiated sewing classes with 8 machines in 1992 and provided a vocation to some women.
Raksha is still active in SEWAC-B, and with her rich experience, provides guidance to the committee even today.
